Friday Random Ten: Googlism Edition

You know what day it is! Time to put your digital music player on shuffle (iPod), click play, and list the first ten songs that show up. You must resist the temptation to click past the bad or embarrassing songs.

Also, a twist this week, modified from a last.fm journal post by cocaineyes: go to googlism, type in your artists and pick your favourite one for each.

  1. “Hollywood Freaks” by Beck (taunted with the impossible)
  2. “Big Empty” by Stone Temple Pilots (volatile)
  3. “James Connolly” by Black 47 (not the right band for those who suffer from social apathy)
  4. “Supersonic” by Bad Religion (a superior punk instructor to an audience growing increasingly younger)
  5. “The Horse” by Phish (too uncool in some of the snobbier indie rock cliques out there)
  6. “All Twisted” by CIV (a true balancing act)
  7. “Thick of It All” by Porno for Pyros (pretty mellow)
  8. “Little Room” by the White Stripes (so refreshing)
  9. “Say Hello 2 Heaven” by Temple of the Dog (so bloody brilliant)
  10. “Fame (What She’s Wanting)” by SR-71 (basically out of the picture)

Most Favorite: Beck’s “Hollywood Freaks” from his 1999 Midnite Vultures

Least Favorite: “The Horse” on 1993’s Rift from Phish: just because you really can’t listen to this track as a stand-alone

Seen Live: Beck at the 1997 Y100 Feztival, and I’ve been aching to see him live again ever since

Other FRTers: Ben, Brian, Ellen, Jill, Kate, Luna, Marisa
