Friday Random Ten: iPod’s First Edition

You know what day it is! Time to put your digital music player on shuffle (the first FRT with my new iPod!), click play, and list the first ten songs that show up. You must resist the temptation to click past the bad or embarrassing songs.

  1. Crazy Babies (Ozzy Osbourne)
  2. People of the Sun (Rage Against the Machine)
  3. Unite (Beastie Boys)
  4. Pretty Fly (For a White Guy) (the Offspring)
  5. Come on Home (Franz Ferdinand)
  6. Back to the Motor League (Propagandi)
  7. Living for the City (Stevie Wonder)
  8. Not Even the Trees) (Hootie & the Blowfish)
  9. Crush with Eyelines (R.E.M.)
  10. Wet Sand (Red Hot Chili Peppers)

Most Favorite Song: “Wet Sand” from the Chili Pepperss’ latest release Stadium Arcadium. I bought this CD last week when I got my new iPod—I think it was the first Chili Peppers’ album I didn’t get on release day since BloodSugarSexMagic—and it’s definitely a great one.

Least Favorite Song: R.E.M.’s “Crush with Eyeliner” from their 1994 Monster. My father’s brother and his then-girlfriend (now wife) gave me this album for Christmas in ‘94, and this was one of the few tracks I never cared for that much.

Seen Live: Red Hot Chili Peppers: on 2 April 2000, my ex-boyfriend and I bused it up to Albany for the show, which I then missed because during the Foo Fighters set, two drunk crowd-surfing boys fell on my head and security rushed me to the hospital. Nothing broken, but my neck was sprained; on 3 May 2003 B and I drove up to Albany, and while we sustained no physical injuries, I did got a headache during Mars Volta’s set.

Other FRTers: Ben, Brian, Ellen, Luna, Marisa, popscholar, Sherri

And I saw on Luna’s website that it’s Ellen’s birthday! Have a happy one, Ellen!
